In my artistic practice, I work with perception and experience, mental states, remembering and the physical inscription of experiences. With a sense of humor and a penchant for the absurd, I develop questions that arise from everyday observations.
In desires and needs, I seek universal connections that represent me as a subject, but also address the viewer or involve them in a participatory way. Projection mechanisms of the psyche and the relationship to objects are the core of my working approach. On the one hand, meaning is a subjective attribution, but on the other hand it is only conveyed through collective consent. One way for me to reach the viewer is through shared physicality. Memory and perception are conveyed through the fact that we all share a physical experience. Likewise, most of us share common desires and fears. At the moment I am particularly concerned with hope and places of longing.
In architecture, I find analogies for support and obstacles. In my work “Relief, 2023” the Y-shaped form of a building support becomes the bearer of a tired body that is above all emotionally exhausted.
Through my work I invite the audience to engage with the complex relationships between the psyche, environment and society.
My approach to my own and secondary experiences is clearly reflected in my choice of materials. Industrially manufactured products are juxtaposed with handicrafts and combine in sculptures and installations. Site-specific approaches emerge from my experience of the exhibition space, its architecture, its informal rules and its social significance.
Ceramics has become one of my favorite materials, the action seems archived and yet the process of production can be seen in the object. What fascinates me about working with clay is the examination of the material's properties, its inherent meaning and its potential in different states. I use the entire spectrum from turning on the potter's wheel to modeling by hand, slab technique, various kilns and glazing processes.
